Pussycats (Harry Nilsson, John Lennon) Easter Egg - Drugs

the cover of this John Lennon/Harry Nilsson collaboration depicts little toy kitten dolls (Lennon and Nilsson) sitting in a tiny dollhouse, across the kitchen table from one another . . .

there is a woven rug under the little table, and on either side of the rug, for some reason, are children's alphabet blocks. they don't seem so incongruous given the whole dollhouse setting, but one shows the letter D and the other shows the letter S.

knowing Lennon and Nilsson's penchant for slipping wry references here and there (if for no other reason than their own personal amusement) i found myself staring at the cover one evening, wondering if "DS" stood for somebody's initials or something like that . . .

then i noticed the rug and its placement in the photo:

D (rug) S

D RUG S

DRUGS

it's very clever and silly . . . i had a good laugh over it . . .

Good eyes! Nilsson had a great sense of humor, as did Lennon, so I'm not too surprised that they came up with this clever joke, and were able to slip it past RCA.
