Happy Jack (The Who) - Funny Faces
One of earliest hits(1966) for The Who. Pete Townshend threw maniac drummer Keith Moon out of the recording studio during the laying down of the vocals on this classic single. Keith just couldn't sing, let alone harmonize.
-----
So to spite his stubborn leader, Moon the Loon played hide and seek with the other two band members from the other side of the sound proof glass. He jumped back and forth in and out of sight. You can hear the smiles during the singing, as Moon made faces.
-----
At the end of the song-- Pete angrily pulled off his earphones and shouted, "I SAW YOU!!"
-----
1.)They left it in for the radio stations and fans to puzzle over. 2.)They left it in to apologize to Keith for excluding him for his lack of singing skills.
-----
Miss ya, Moon!!

Although I'm not sure exactly how much of that is true, I have heard a similar story before. However, I think that Pete said it in fun, rather than being truly angry about it. What is interesting is that on the Live At Leeds version of the song, someone (it sounds like Pete) ends by saying "I saw ya!" It must have already become a fun trademark of the song by that time.
