Trivia; Venus in Furs was the code name for Photoshop 6.0 Beta, and the cat was the splash screen just prior to final release =)

don't forget to wait for the entire cast and crew names to scroll through, when it's done, option click just under the left side of the "cat in furs" screen in the blank area, above the team member names. You'll get a new set of "sayings" from the photoshop team.

As I watched the credits scroll by, not only was I touched by the mention of their passed pets, I was touched by the final thank you. Check it out.

Does anyone have a screen shot of the cat they can send me? I want to print it in our computer magazine WE Compute (circulation 150,000), with full credit for the trick to The Easter Egg Archive (eeggs.com) and the sender, of course. Send it to my email address as an attachment. Note: This was posted on 1/4/01

That's great. It even works by holding command+alt on a Macintosh

Just so you know, I don't think it works in 6.0.1. That is unless I wasn't doing it right. I just get the normal about box.

Venus In Furs may have been the name of the cat in this egg and the name of Photoshop 6.0 Beta, but it was also a song off "The Velvet Underground and Nico"

Maybe this will help those of you having trouble. I found that I can't click on a menu when the ALT key is pressed. To get the easter egg to work. Press and hold CTRL then select About Photoshop from the Help menu but DON'T release the mouse button yet. Press and hold the ALT key now and then release the mouse button. Wala!

This egg does the reverse in PhotoShop 6.0 BETA. The splash and about screens in BETA show "Venus in Furs" by default, so the easter egg instead displays the regular PhotoShop screen! :)

Holding the key while the credits roll will make them advance REALLY fast in the Windows version.

If you wait until all credits has scrolled by, you'll see a special thanks to YOU (if you've paid and registered that is). The option-key (or alt-key on PC's) speeds up the scroll. To see the programmer teams bad jokes, just wait until all the credits has scrolled by once, then hit the apple-key (or ctrl-key for PC's) in either the eye or the cat's face if you have a PC or just below the picture if you have a Mac. Silly really, but amusing.

About the meaning of Venus in Furs- Venus In Furs was a book written by the author Sacher Masoch in the 1800's. He was a masochist(perhaps the first, or at least the first well known masochist), meaning, he derived sexual pleasure from being humilitated and whiped, specifically, by women wearing fur coats. The cat has a whip, high and black shiny leather boots, and black arm things which a dominatrix(a woman that beats the masochist) usually wears nowadays.
