It's a feature. If you type --> it automatically turns into a arrow. It's part of autocomplete.

You're dead right it's not an egg. Whilst in Word 97 Just go to Tools/Autocorrect and you'll find all the options listed.

I'm surprised that people have submitted this as an "egg" when it isn't. You can even roll your own -- I've added a few in my copy of Word, including == which changes into the equivalence sign (three bars), and ~~ for the "approximately equals" sign (wavy bars instead of straight). One can also do things such as defining /thimc as a shortcut for "To Whom It May Concern:", for example.

So what if it's not an egg? Most people don't know about it. It's OK to post cool things in programs that are not technically eggs, but are just as much fun as eggs.

I myself, agree it's NOT an egg. I even added my own AutoCorrect entries for common misspellings I do. I like the "(C)" turning into © and "(R)" into ®, and stuff. Word has many features that may be mistaken as easter eggs. If you come across something in Word®, check EVERY help file if it's not in there it is probably an egg.
