If this is true, it will be a toy because Tribbles are exstink in the 24th century according to a comment Worf made in the Deep Space Nine episode, "Trials and Tribbleations".

I'm not so sure about this but wasn't the episode "Trial and Tribble-lations" aired after Star Trek Generations. In ither case, why would a endagerd species be aloud as someone's pet or be aloud to leave its cage?

I saw this one too, It's very easy to miss unless you watch for it, and yes it was in Generations. Also, to those pointing out the technical reasons why there wouldn't be tribble's on board, remember that this is an easter egg, not a part of the movie.

Actually, Tribbles still exist, but they are rare (despite their fast breeding). The tribbles were only destroyed on Qo' Nos (The Klingon Homeworld). They could have been on many planets in the sector. (Notice how whenever the away team beams down to a planet (During the day, and no, not all planets) there are usually "birds" chirping? (on most planets) There could easily be Tribbles on other planets as well.

The toy that was dropped by the child Geordi was carrying was definitely a teddy bear. However, slightly before this there is a young boy with black hair cradling a white lump of fur that could be interpreted as a tribble (although, all tribbles seen previously were brown in color.
