Dirty Harry Easter Egg - Diner Counter Man & Movie Marquee in "Dirty Harry"

Early in the film, Inspector Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) stops at a cheap diner for a hot dog. The sloppy, gruff guy working behind the counter (uncredited) is actually famed film director (and Eastwood friend/mentor in directing) Don Siegel.

Soon, Callahan suspects a bank robbery is about to take place just down the street. Watch closely as Harry, chewing the hot dog, leaves the diner and approaches the bank: Right around the corner from the diner, there is a movie theater.

Read the marquee: The movie advertised as playing is none other than “Play Misty For Me”, Eastwood’s prior film and his first effort at directing.

Sorry-- this is wrong. Woodrow Parfrey plays the hot-dog man in Dirty Harry. Don Siegel (director of Dirty Harry) did, however, play the bartender in Play Misty For Me as a favor to Clint Eastwood, who directed the film.
