Ghostbusters 2 Easter Egg - Film at the Cinema

When everything starts to go a bit crazy (The titanic arriving, etc), there's a scene where a load of people run out of a cinema, chased by a ghost. If you look at the film title on the boards at the cinema, it reads "Cannibal Girls" - one of Ivan Reitman's first films! Is this a comment on the quality of said film, or just a joke?

PS - It also reminds me of "The Blob", or am I just imagining things?
