Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Easter Egg - Storytime Kids

Around the beginning of the film, when we are in The Shire, it is Bilbo Baggins' birthday. In one scene, Bilbo is story-telling to some hobbit children. At one point in this scene, there is a close-up of a young boy and girl sitting at the very front of the hobbit audience; they are none other than Director Peter Jacksons' children.

Bet you didn't know that!

Actually, the boy might be Peter Jacksons son, I have no way of confirming this, but the girl definitely is not. Peter Jackson has only one son, Billy Jackson. The little girls name is Taea Hartwell, she had a role in The Frighteners as well. She is a baby in the Nursery Scene. < Note to eeggs.com staff who reads this. The following information can be confirmed at the following: http://us.imdb.com/Bio?Jackson,+Peter and http://us.imdb.com/Name?Hartwell,+Taea >

Actually, in the credits, there is a credit for "Cute Hobbit Children!" I thought that was really funny. :) Right near "Extras Wranglers" which I thought was also pretty funny...makes me think of a couple of movie people on horseback with whips rounding up the extras. :)

This is from Peter Jackson Fanclub Website at: http://tbhl.theonering.net/ http://tbhl.theonering.net/films/the_frighteners_lazer.html Frighteners The Jackson Boys, Peter's cameo & Billy Jackson Peter's cameo as the biker that Fox encounters on the way out of the newspaper building, plus Peter and Fran's son, Billy's cameo as the kid in the jumper during the flying baby scene. So if he put his kid in one movie why not another?

well nobody who stayed till the end of the movie would get this one. I wondered why the hob-bit children had the same last name as the director, i decided that it was becase they were related and the word children gave me the idea of his CHILDREN

The children are indeed the director's kids. They are credited at the end of the cast list as "Cute Hobbit Children". I saw the movie for the third time last night.

The proof is in the credits. Look for "Cute Hobbit Children" - they all have the surname "Jackson".

Actually, there is proof - if you watch through the credits, towards the end, his kids (there are more than one listed) are credited as "cute hobbit children"!

The children are Jacksons' children. I work in Wellington, New Zealand and they come into work on a semi-regular basis as a family.

Yeah it was a cameo by Peter Jacksons Children. Also making a similar cameo was Sean (Sam Gamgee) Astin's Daughter Alexandra Astin as another child hobbit.

Taea Hartwell, Billy Jackson AND Katie Jackson (Peter Jackson does have adaughter) are all in this film. To reply to Freestylin_Hamster, his children were born in 1994 and 1996, so they would have been about 4 and 6 years old when the scene was shot, which is about the age they look in the film. It's Bilbo who tells the story to the hobbit children. It's not surprising that Peter Jackson's children are in that scene. I happen to know, as well, that one of the set-construction manager's children is in that scene! (She's in the middle row on the far left.)

Actually, the web page that Yaksha submitted as proof that Peter Jackson does not have a daughter says that h is the father of Katie Jackson (1996) and of Billy Jackson (1994).

Sean Astin's daughter Alexandra will play his very own daughter Rose? (correct me if I'm wrong) in the upcoming films of Lord of the Rings.

Hasn't anyone watched the deluxe LOTR DVD?!? In it, during the directors commentory, Peter himself expplains who "...the cutest little hobbits are". Yes, they are indeed his own kids, and I agree the little girl is just a darling. BTW, in this commentaryy Peter also says a lot of the other hobbits were the cast and crews family members. Watch it yourself to proove Im not a liar (andd to catch other cool tidbits of info). Ttfn

Tuatara writes:
The fully correct answer to this is that Peter's two kids, Billy and Katie, and my daughter, Taea, were the kids in the scene listening to Bilbo telling his story. And all the kids at the birthday scene were cast members' kids. They opened up the casting of the kids to just us (crew members), which was pretty cool.
