Goodnight Moon Easter Egg - Goodnight Moon and the Runaway Bunny

Goodnight Moon is a classic children's bedtime book written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd. These two had previously collaborated on a book called "The Runaway Bunny." There are two easter eggs in the illustrations for Goodnight Moon that reference The Runaway Bunny. There is a bookcase in the "great green room," and on the top shelf, leaning up against a group of red books is a green book. If you look closely, you can see that the title of this book is The Runaway Bunny.

The second Runaway Bunny easter egg in Goodnight Moon is a painting hanging on the wall of a mother bunny fishing for her runaway bunny in a trout stream using a carrot for bait. This is the first color illustration from The Runaway Bunny. This is the only painting on the walls of the green room that is not in color.

I never would have noticed this egg had you not mentioned anything. I had seen the bunny somewhere before and I could not place it. Now I know that the same author and illustrator of "Goodnight Moon" had worked on that book. It is true that you learn something everyday.
