Evil Dead II Easter Egg - Nod to Craven

When Ash goes into the cellar to kill the witch, if you look closely you will see Freddy Krugger's glove. The reason for this is it is thanks to Wes Craven for putting Evil Dead in the first Elm Street movie.

On the DVD Sam and Bruce make mention that Sam and Wes are always trying to out due each other. In Evil Dead 1, in the basement there is a "The Hills Have Eyes" poster some what torn. Sam describes this as his way of saying, T.H.H.E. is just a movie while ED is true horror. In Nightmare on El St., Evil Dead is playing on the TV basically saying that Evil dead was just a movie and Nightmare is real horror. Sam in ED2 turned the tables again by hanging the Freddy glove to say nightmare is just a movie and that ED2 was real horror.

I have the special edition and Sam says the glove is to pay homage to Wes. The glove is above the door in the tool shed. Sam points this out in a freeze frame and has it highlighted. Chuck

The glove is also in the work shed above the door. You might need the full screen version of the movie to see it though.

It is not a nod, but a shot at Wes Craven. There has been a long standing rivalry going on between the two of them and it was yet another way of saying that Craven's movies are "Pop Horror Genre."

The glove is symbolic of Sam and Wes' respect for one another. They're related (cousins or something). Not rivals.
