Red Alert Easter Egg - Cryptic Messages Hidden by Psx Manual Designers
This is a good easter egg I think because it was very hidden and obviously intentional, and I was surprised when I discoverd it. It was also a little time consuming to decode.
The first step is to open up the case and extract the manual. Bad luck to all those who bought a pirated game. It serves you right. Have a little look-see at the seemingly-random dot-dash code at the bottom of most of the pages. This is Morse Code, now officially obsolete. The segments in brackets are written as bold dots and dashes in the manual and their meaning is yet to be discovered! The code says (in segments): 1. (X ) DECODE CRYPTO NORMAL 2. RED EAGLE PASSES HAWK 3. RED ALERT RED ALERT 4. BUILDING RUNWAYS 5. ASSAULT UNITS 6. ( MX) 7. (X ) MESSAGE COM HQS SEVEN 8. DECODE CRYPTO 9. (X MX) VULTURE SNACKS 10. ( MX) ALLIES LOSE VERDUN 11. (X MX) FORCES DESTROYED 12. ( MX) DISPATCH TROOPS ASAP 13. ( MX) RETRIEVE TANYA 14. CRITICAL MOVEMENTS 15. (X MX) SPOTTED NW SAHXA 16. NUCLEAR WARHEADS 17. (X ) DESTINED WASHINGTON 18. DELAYED STRIKE AX ZULU 19. ( MX) ADVISE ETA 20. ( MX) I am fairly sure the relevance lies in the alternate game play based around the ants missions in some versions. If anyone involved in the creation of these codes reads this could they please contact me and reply here to explain the relevance of the elusive M's and X's while I try to work it out!
