Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Easter Egg - Ed Wood Reference

When Wonka and the others are in the elevator touring rooms, right around the time they pass through the doll infirmary, they pass by a room with a bunch of pink sheep. Wonka says "I don't want to talk about it," making a reference to "Ed Wood" another film by Tim Burton that Johnny Depp starred in.

In "Ed Wood" Depp's character was a cross-dresser who had a fondness for pink angora sweaters. Angora is a soft wool that can be taken from either sheep or goats. Subtle, but funny.

Nice catch! Even as an avid Burton fan I didn't make that connection.

This is indeed a reference to Ed Wood. As is the salute Wonka and The Oompa Loompas do where they cross their arms over their chests. This is the exact same salute the aliens do in Plan 9 From Outer Space an Ed Wood Film.

I TOTALLY caught that when I saw the movie, but I tried explaining it to some "fans" of Burton/Depp, and they told me I was looking into it too much. I'm glad I'm not the only one who realizes this Easter Egg!!

Sorry, but this is incorrect. Angora fibers come from angora rabbits, not sheep.
