Half-Life 2 Easter Egg - Quake Reference in Console Cheats

When entering some of the cheats into the console for Half Life 2, I noticed a few that reminded me of the Quake cheat codes. In Quake, to obtain all weapons you had to enter "Impulse 11" into the console. In HL2, for all weapons you must enter "Impulse 101" in the console. There are several other Impulse cheats for both games. The real reason that this is an egg however is that ID software did the Quake games, but to my knoledge had nothing to do with Half Life 2. This leads me to believe that this may be a clever reference to the FPS genere's roots for all us cheaters to find.

The HL1 engine was build of the Quake 1 engine with parts of Quake 2's engine..

There's another Quake reference in Half life two. There is a Deathmatch map called "Tokey Towers". In Quake two, there was a multiplayer map called "Tokey's Towers". The two maps look alike as well.

It was the same way in HL1, and it was built off the Quake Two engine. I guess when Valve made HL2, they decided to keep it like that with many of the same commands.

The Source engine which HL2 is based off of is a hack of the Half-Life engine which was based off of Quake technology. Keeping things the same for both engines, especially to developers like me who've worked with both, is a great boost to workflow and efficiency when starting a project with a brand new engine.
