Star Trek Easter Egg - Reference to Editor
On page 11 Kirk is trying to pull up a tree and think he could do it better if he used a team of animals called 'ordovers' described as "horned, horselike beasts of burden".
This is a reference to John Ordover, one of the head honchos at Star Treks section of Pocket Books who publish most of the novels.
