Cup in the Sink, The Easter Egg - Childhood References

In the movie "The Cup in the Sink", directed by Steve Gussepee, about half way through the movie there is a scene where Hank is doing dishes. He pulls out a cup that says "Tom" on it. I heard that this is a reference to his friend from school. They were just talking to each other and Steve said something about another kid in his class, Tom, "Hey look at me, I'm Tom, the cup in the sink."
