Tony Clifton was either played by Kaufman or Zmuda. In the movie, Zmuda was in the audience just to make you watching it think Kaufman is alive. If you read the book by Bob Zmuda, I know you won't, then you will find that Zmuda actually played Clifton a year after Andy died. Yes, he really died.

Now, I'll admit that it's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but I believe that at some point (perhaps after the wrestling bit?) Andy says that the only way he could top himself was to fake his own death. Considering that comment, it's quite obvious that we are supposed to think that Andy DID fake his own death when we see Zmunda in the audience (with a tear in his eye, no less!) It's a very nice scene.
