Baldur's Gate Easter Egg - Daer' Ragh

You probably know this egg already, if you've played the game, but I decided to add it for completeness.

In Nashkel village, outside the Temple of Helm, there are numerous gravestones. Clicking on them tells you the epitaph written on them (most of which are quite funny).

Reading one of the stones on the east side triggers an easter egg - a sorceror called Daer' Ragh appears (anyone know who he represents?) And tells you not to do that again.

If you read the tombstone again, he reappears with a squad of phoenix guards who will slaughter your party, so make sure you've saved before trying this!

It is possible to survive the Dear' Ragh attack. When he appers cast a silence spell on him (2nd level priest spell) then he wont have time to summon the knights. I'm not quite sure about this part because it is a long time sinse i have played it. But i goes something like this: Kill Dear' Ragh. When he dies a knigt appers. Then kill him close enough to the fat guy. The explotion from the knight will kill the fat guy. And you can collect the knight, Dear' Ragh and the fat guy's stuff.

H'm... thanks for that information! Silly me forgot to post my username when I submitted the egg, so now I don't get credit. Drat. I'll try killing Daer' Ragh, then. Do you know if he carries any good items?

You can always survive the attack when cheating... you can summon 10 DrizztDefends creatures to the same spot Daer' Ragh apears and they will kick his ass

I recently managed to defeat the phoenix guards using only Kagain. The trick is to give him potion and ring of fire resistance, and helm of defence. With this combination (getting a character's fire resistance above 100%) they will actually take negative damage from the fireballs (i.e. fire will heal them slightly).

You can try to kill Daer Ragh, but it is NOT worth it. All he has is a measly 58 gp. As for the phoenix guards, they are not too hard to pick off if you use stealth with magic arrows (don't use arrows of fire or detonation, arrows of ice work fairly well). :)

So Daer Ragh's broke? Make certain he blows Oublek (fat man) up then - he's got 3000GP on him! I find a stinking cloud and a mirrorimaged person works - get everyone else out of the way, stand imaged bloke next to Oublek and nuke the guys. If he never reaches you, the guards come one at a time not all at once. You lose a couple of images when he blows.

Moriarty - that Kagain trick is priceless! :) Brings me back to ye old days of pen and paper gaming where we would find the most ridiculous loop holes in the usage of rings of regeneration and the DM would then throw the most ridiculous things at us.

All the tombstones have names of game designers on - see back of the manual. Daer Ragh is Mark Darragh - it says Mark D. on the stone. I worked out most of the others too.

Oh yeah - as a DM myself I'd like to say that the "Kagain trick" (having more than 100% fire res.) SHOULD get you 1hp per level of the bloke who cast the fireball at you, or per hit die of the Phoenix Guard that blew. Or they do in 'ye olde pen and paper games'. Just thought you'd like to know. (Why do I write all these comments?)

In Baldur's Gate II Daer'Ragh has some spells in his name. Daer'Ragh's Mental Agility, Daer'Ragh's Physical Agility and Daer'Ragh's Aura Cleansing. His aura cleansing makes you able to cast spells really quick, without waiting. Most characters (Not including PC's and NPC's) such as Gorion have it.........

I used algernon's cloak to charm daer'ragh, then when you talk to him and he threatens to kill you, all the phoenix guards he summons are under your control. This can be done however many times you want (i'm assuming), and they seem to stick around for a long time...although they like to wander off. Anywho, not much point to it. =\
