"Why should I click on those annoying ads?"

Eeggs.com and its network of related web sites get a HUGE number of visitors. In fact, we routinely get over 30 million hits per month. 30+ million!!! That means that these sites regularly consume 250+ gigabytes worth of bandwidth every month and require their own dedicated server to handle all of this traffic. It all costs money - hundreds to thousands of dollars every month, actually. If that money was coming out of our own pockets, we would have to shut the sites down - they're too expensive! But we use advertising to pay for all these costs, and that's where you come in.

Most ads are run on a "cost-per-click" basis. That is, if you click on an ad, we get paid a few pennies. If you don't click, we don't get any money. Simple as that. And with ad rates dropping, we're not even breaking even anymore. We aren't looking to get rich, just to bring in enough cash to cover expenses. If this downward trend in advertising dollars continues, we'll have to close the sites altogether.

You can help!

If you simply take the time to click on an ad every once in a while, you will help the sites out immensely. Here are some interesting advertising facts:

  • Average click rates here are between 0.05 and 0.1%. That is: for every 1000 to 2000 ads that we show, only ONE is clicked on.
  • The lower the click rate, the less advertisers want to advertise on these sites, and as a consequence the rates they pay drop even more.

If you click on only 1 out of every 100 ads you see, you will be helping out 10-20 TIMES more than the average visitor! If all visitors help out just this much, we can easily keep all the sites up, and pay for plenty of future improvements. We might even be able to reduce the number of ads shown on the sites. Wouldn't that be nice!

So please, do your part and click on an occasional ad, and keep the archives alive and free for years to come!
