Smiths / Morrissey Easter Egg - Inner Groove Inscriptions
1. Look at the inner groove (the quiet bit at the end of each side) on many Smiths or Morrissey 7" and 12" singles.
2. You will find little inscriptions penned by Morrissey such as (not exhaustive): I. Hand in Glove 7" a)Kiss my shades b)Kiss my shades too II. This Charming Man 12" a)Will nature make a man of me yet? b)Slap me on the patio III. Heaven Knows... 7" a)Smiths Indeed b)Ill forever IV. Heaven Knows... 12" a)Smiths presumably b)Forever ill V. William... 12" a)The impotence of being Ernest b) Romantic & _ is hip and aware (or certain pressings: We hates bad grammer) VI. Last Night I Dremt... 12" a) The return of the Submissive Society starring Sheridan Whiteside b)The bizarre oriental vibrating palm death starring Shiridan Whiteside

'Sheridan Whiteside' is a pseudonym Morrissey adopted when writing to various UK music magazines (mostly the NME) as a teenager. The name is that of the lead character in George S. Kaufman & Moss Hart's play "The Man Who Came To Dinner"

And probably the most prophetic of them all, in their last single ("Last Night I dreamt that somebody loved me") is the inscription "And Never More Shall Be So"

Not sure if thats really Morissey? Mastering engineers have been known to add little words of wisdom to records when they make the cutting plates. Look at a lot of dance 12"s. Are you sure these words came from the man himself?

I've found the best one! On an lp recorded live that I've got (can't remember the name) the inscription is: Would you risk it, for a biscuit?
Excellent
