Simpsons, The - Personal References
In the "Homer's Phobia" the one where John Waters plays a gay shop owner, When John is first introduced, there is a pink flamingo leaning against a wall behind him. "Pink Flamingos" was one of John Waters's films.
In the episode with Poochie the Rockin dog in it, caricatures of the actual Simpson's crew members are used to portray the writers of the Itchy and Scratchy show.

Flamingos get their coloring from the carotenoid in the food they eat. When they are born they are gray or white. That is your useless fact for the day.

Yep. Flamigos are only pink if they're getting the proper diet. If you remove certain foods from their diet, they can't produce the pink pigment, and the color fades. They're sort of a dusty gray, then.
