X-Men Easter Egg - Hidden X' and O's

Of course you will see a lot of X's in the movie on doors and floors around the X-men's hideout (because it is the X-men movie!), but director Bryan Singer admits in an article (which you can read at http://marvel.com/x-men/showbiz_072800.html#) that he placed X's in the movie wherever he could – and they are often hard to find.

An example he mentioned was, "I once grabbed a big piece of debris that was lying outside the train station that looked like an X and put it so it would be lit as Magneto marched to the helicopter." Another example that was mentioned here by another ‘eegg’ aficionado was that one of the panels in the cage where Wolverine was fighting was made of little 'X' holes – not all of the panels, just the one where he is standing. And another that my friend found was a bright, X shaped form on the bar behind Rogue while she and Logan were talking during their first meeting.

In the same article, Singer states that his production designer began bringing in O's, Magneto's symbol, wherever he could to counter all the X's. Some, like some of the X's, are very prominent and easy to see like Magneto’s Mutant producing machine, but some are very subtle and hard to catch, like the ones Singer says are on Wolverine's bedspread while he is sleeping.

I think it is almost like a big game of Tic-Tac-Toe and I wonder exactly what the original creators of the X-men were thinking when they made the symbol of Magneto, the X-men’s main antagonist, an ‘O’.

X O X
O X O

That's interesting. I noticed in the very beginning when Professor X chats with Magneto that all those beams were x shaped. I wondered if it was something more then coincidence. Now I know.

also an obvious "X" is on Xavier's wheelchair you can see it as a perfect "X" when he is talking to Magneto at the mutant conference in the building with the "X"'s.

the hidden x's above are all good ones, but i think i have found one that isn't so obvious, at least not yet. i just watched X-MEN and if you look at the 20th century fox logo that starts the movie as it fades out to black, right after the last note of the fanfare, and right before Xavier says "mutants", you will notice the "X" at the end of "FOX" stays visible for just a split second longer than all the other letters in the logo, you need a good vcr to pause and advance the tape frame by frame to really notice it, sort of a subliminal thing with x's...

The most obscure one I've managed to spot is in the scene where Jean is using Cerebro. As Cyclops comes out of the medlab and sees her kneeling there, way down the hall, take a look at her feet in the long shot. The light-colored soles of her shoes and their reflection in the dark walkway form a small perfect X right in the middle of the screen.

I noticed a rather strange one. At the beginning, the scene where (child)Magneto bends the fence... the fence is bent into an X. Also, when Picar-err, Prof. X is using Cerebro, the stuff around him shatters in to X's for a second...

prince vegeta, I watched my recently-bought X-Men tape today and kept my eyes peeled when the 20th Century Fox logo faded and the X stays there for a fairly obvious amount of time-- I saw it stay long enough without even pausing

I found one which *may* be an 'O', depending on how you look at it. When Mystique taints Ceribro and the whole blue tube thing goes black, the black swirls in in a circular (thus the O) pattern. I'm not entirely sure if this counts

I saw this example of x's and o's the first time I watched X-men in the theater and have confirmed it with multiple viewings and having others watch for it. During the train scene when Magneto rips the train open, look at the base of Wolverines claws when he's is being held up by Magneto, crucified you could say. At the base of the claws are little X-men symbols, the X inside the O. This is the only scene that has the hidden marks on Wolverine's claws.

If you look at the cover, there's also another large 'X' on the front, it's right before 'Men' in the title...

Notice that Magneto's plastic prison looks like a tic-tac-toe board when viewed from the top. Nice, eh?

Also, look at the neck tie Senator Kelly's assistant is wearing (when Mystique is shifted to him in the helicopter) The markings look like little O's. I think his assistant was the character Peter Henry Gyrich, but I'm not positive.

Ok, on the subject of "X"'s...in the scene where the x-men are in the Statue of Liberty. Magneto "captures" the group, when he captures Wolverine, he makes his arms form an X. Just an observation.

Just a thought, does anyone think it has to do with the spelling of their names? Prof. Xavier, v. MagnetO? Like I said, just a thought.

I was looking for these while watching the movie and found a lot of them it was awsome Viva la Spider-man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, Machine, your observation is completely wrong. The ONLY reason Magneto crosses Wolverine's arm's is so that Wolverine cannot use his claws to free himself or anyone else. Although he does escape he injures himself in the process.(I have not seen the film in a while and may be wrong about my second comment - feel free to correct me).
