Scorsese, Martin - Marty and Michael
The great English film-maker Michael Powell was more than an influence on modern master Martin Scorsese. Scorsese became a close friend of Powell and saved the latter's "Peeping Tom" from oblivion. And Scorsese's Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker became Powell's last wife. In Scorsese's early film "Boxcar Bertha", he named two bounty hunters after Powell and his partner Emerich Pressburger (they called their production company "The Archers"). And in "New York, New York", Robert DeNiro's jazzman signs himself "M. Powell".
