Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Easter Egg - Naked DNA

In the TV series version on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the second episode, during the first half, Douglas Adams withdraws money, then proceeds to walk into the ocean butt naked.

Douglas Adams confirmed this in the extras on the Hitchikers BBC series DVD Box. He also added that it was an extremely cold experience.

Yes indeed, there was a BBC television series of HHGTG. It abbreviated the events somewhat, and of course the visual effects were nowhere near as good as on the radio... There are some fun things in it, though, including some possible eggs. For example, the Dish of the Day (in the Milliways scene) is played by a very heavily made up Peter Davison. This is a double egg -- Peter Davison was one of the actors to play the time-traveling Doctor in Dr Who (very appropriate for the time-travel theme of Milliways!) and he also happened to be the husband of Sandra Dickinson, the actress who was playing Trillian!

It *is* DNA- if you watch the 'Making of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' video you can see extended footage of the shot, which shows DNA's face before he turns round.

This is the British TV show, which is currently being re shown on the BBC. The reference is to the part about some people felt that coming out of the trees had been a bad idea and still others said that the trees were a bad idea in the first place and they never should have left the oceans. The screen shows a business man taking his clothes off and throwing his money on the floor before wondering into the ocean forever. Douglas Adams is the man that does this. It is a great TV show, worth watching if you can find it.

Yes, there was a T.V. show. I don't know if it was ever shown as a series in the U.S. but I think it was. By sheer luck the local PBS station showed the entire series back-to-back one New-Year's eve when I happened to have plenty of blank video tape. It was the first I'd ever seen of HHG.

For all you Douglas Adams fans out there, the late DNA had a radio series (I think it was actually two series), five books, two 12" vinyl records and a television series. There is even a computer game based on a reference in the HHGTTG books to the Starship Titanic. A book was also written about the "Starship Titanic" not by Douglas Adams but by his good friend and ex-python star Terry Jones. One last point, the TV series reportedly cost the BBC one million pounds per episode, I don't know if this is true or not though!

All this talk of DNAs initialsreminds me that he was very interested in enviromental issue, he even lectured on the subject. His book on nearly extinct creatures Last Chance To See Is Very good. By the way, my handle is taken from hhgttg. My own personal egg.

You can find out more about the mini series at: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0081874 It came out in 1981 and it is 194 minutes long. Somewhat low budget, but a must see. http://us.imdb.com/Title?0185452 The Making of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1993) A great video to watch if you love the series and books. Enjoy!

Douglas Adam's middle is??? Does it start with an 'N'?? Just thought I'd ask - seeing as how people are referring to him as DNA - which, as a biologist makes slightly annoyed.
