Hitchcock, Alfred - Hitch's Most Ingenious Appearance
Hitchcock, of course, did cameos in all of his films, often making fun of his girth (such as boarding a train while toting a double bass in "North By Northwest").
His most ingenious was in the film "Lifeboat," which took place in an open boat at sea. He thought of floating by as a dead body, but it created too many technical problems. So he arranged for a character to read an advertisement for a diet-aid product called "Reduco," featuring before and after photos of Hitchcock, who had just dieted down from 300 to 200 pounds in real life.
After the film came out, the producers were bombarded with requests from viewers wanting to know where they could get "Reduco."

The cameo in which Alfred Hitchcock has a double base is in Strangers on a Train, in North by Northwest his cameo is at the very beginning when he tries to board a bus but the door closes on him.

I think that hitchcock's most in-genius cameo was in the film "Rope" where 1:46 m in to the film a neon sign with his famous profile appeares at the background of the city! IN-GENIUS!

In "Dial M For Murder" he is the man sitting just on the left of the husband who wants to kill his wife... But Lifeboat is the weirdest way to appear on the screen...

Actually, in Dial M For Murder, his appearance is as the guy in the phone booth thing that slows Ray Milland's perfect crime down. Possibly one of the most important (in terms of the plot) cameos that he did.
