Jurassic Park Easter Egg - DNA Light

When the cast escape into the ceiling ducting from the raptor, the light through the grill shining on the raptor's skin is rendered as the letters A, G, C and T, the 4 bases which make up DNA.

This isn't actually an egg, the raptor is standing in front of the projector used to show the 'Mr.DNA' cartoon shown to the characters when they first get into the park

It's a big lie that the velociraptor was standing in front of the projector, this projector was actually standing in a small room wich was turning around the laboratory, NOT the controlroom. By the way, the pattern in the cartoon was changing all the time, the pattern on the velociraptor was constant so it wasn't the MR.DNA-cartoon, it WAS an easter-egg. T = Thymine, A = Adenine, C = Cytosine, G = Guanine

Actually, I think the letters are supposed to be kind of projected from the gene-sequencing computers that the raptor is kicking out of the way at the time. Of course, by projecting them on the raptor, Speilberg is probably allegorically reminding us that the kids, Ellie, and Dr. Grant are being chased by a creation of man, and not nature.

in fact graham is right, it is the light coming through the grate, not a projector,as Hammond "spared no expense" aven when it came to custom vent covers, however it is not an egg, just a really cool prop.

I found this site looking for an explanation for the grille in Jurassic Park. I thought that in the DNA cartoon and the shadow from the grille it was referring to GATTICA, another film about meddling with DNA

It's obvious that the letters are being projected on the raptors head as a result of light shining through the customized vent covers. The projection cannot come from the computer screens as the letters only appear on the top half of the raptor's head, not from his lower jaw down.

Yes, it is the control room, however, if you watch the movie you will the rotating room that tours the facility. When Dr. Grant is on the phone with Hammond and the raptor tries to come through the glass, you will see bullet holes through some glass, look beyond that glass and there is your rotating room with the projector. I don't know where that light is coming from, but there is a projector present in that seen.

This is not an egg at all. It's a director's choice. Someone else mentioned about how it's supposed to represent how the dinos were *made* by computers. It's supposed to be a statement but it is totally RUINED if you have to over-analyze it.

The letters were not a reference to the movie GATTICA. The movie GATTICA has the same letters (GATC) that appear in Jurassic Park as a reference to DNA.

The only reason for this projection is: spielberg wanted to better his special effects - the computer rendered dinosaur with the sequence just looks cool.

Like Wendy, I have watched this movie more than anyone and have never been able to sufficiently explain the pattern on the raptor. I believe it is light projecting through vents nothing to do with a projector, computers or any of that.I agree that it is intentional and either an egg on behalf of spielburg or there is a meaning to it that is meant to relate to the story.
