The egg works for me but the game seems impossible to me. If you know how to get these games out (esp -1) please let me know! (eg email me the first few moves)I wonder if we are all looking at the same games.

The way that they are winning is with another egg. When you get the game up and started hit at same time ctrl-shift-f10 and hit abort.

This egg gave me two games which were unwinnable. One of the games was odds on the left half, evens on right. The other was in ascending order 8 thru A in left four columns, 2 thru 7 in the right four. Aces completely unreachable in both cases. I love Freecell - I play it all the time with a 90% success rate + or -, I don't think this two games can be won as is. Plese tell me if I'm wrong...

The -1 and -2 thing just distrubutes the cards in an interesting way. dan, in an earlier message, gives the code that lets you win. CTRL-SHIFT-F10 brings up a window with buttons reading 'Abort', 'Retry', and 'Ignore'. Abort causes the next move to automatically win. Retry causes the next move to automatically lose. Ignore lets you continue your game as usual.

when you press ctrl shift f10 it brings up the abort to win or retry to lose then if you click abort then click a card it will do it automaticly. When you click retry and click a card it does it automatically until there is no legal moves left. P.S. When you click the abort button on games -1 and -2 when you finish it comes up with the win screen and has select game already ticked P.P.S This also workes on 95

I can truly say that these games are "Impossible" for me to win. when I open freecell, the program's name is a bunch of gibberish until I change the stage, which renames it so it can also reflect the new stage. The play are just gives me a working mouse cursor the whole time too. can anyone help me fix this?

In response to the comment re games 617 and 661. I've done the latter; the former is one of the tricky ones. Its solutions together with lots of information about Freecell can be found at http://members.aol.com/wgreview/

Speaking of which, they're unsolvable. These two games, and game #11982, are the only known unsolvable games in Freecell.

Chris >> Did you even look at games "-1" and "-2"? That's why they're EASTER EGGS. These games are NOT winnable. I won't accept otherwise until you can show me a video of somebody winning them without cheating.

First of all, InfluenzaA, we're talking about games -1 and -2 as in "negative one and negative two." Same thing happened to me as Brian: I tried to make a move in the -2 game (clicked on the last column and tried to place it on the fourth), the illegal move message appeared, I clicked OK and the game won itself as if I used the Abort button, but I didn't. It only happened once and wouldn't work a second time or on the -1 game.

Yes, I agree with Sarah, these 2 games have no solution. Jim Horne who was the programmer put these in for a joke. 11982 is the only one of the 32000 deals that he chose for his game which is unsolvable. If you want to see a proof that some instances of freecell (not included in the windows game) are unsolvable have a look at: http://www.cs.ruu.nl/~hansb/d.freecell/node2.html

Jussi writes:
You know, this all -1 & -2 business is actually a glitch in the game's programming: the "Game Number" is actually a seed for the card randomization code. When you enter these negative numbers, which it can't handle, it goes crazy and can't shuffle the deck. Why does it then accept these two negative numbers? In some programming languages the value -1 is same as True and -2 is False.

Here's why it is 100% impossible to win -1 or -2: Taking game -2 for example: You arrange the 2's on the 3's, the 8's on the 9's. You notice how you need to always put one card in the free cells? Well, it continues in that pattern. You can put an 8 and nine in the free cells, and move them to fit, and the 3's and 4's. After that (or is it after the 5's and 10's?) You can't move them around anymore. I thought it was possible, but trust me it isn't!!

The Abort to Win command doesn't make it win, it just puts them all up there in backwards order. (Notice when it finishes, the Aces are on top.)

Being a FreeCell addict (I am working through from #1 to #32000 and so far up to 25000-odd), I was intrigued to find this site; for the only one I have failed to solve so far is, of course, #11982. Having tried to solve it with mounting frustration many hundreds of times I can now give up, believing it to be impossible. On the other hand, I have found that #11987 is the only puzzle that can be solved without using any of the free-cells at all, even in moving groups of cards. Does anyone know of another one that qualifies?

You can also play this glitch on Windows 7. And the reason i call it "glitch" is cause it is just a flaw in the programmer's programming. There are these levels, -one and -two (-1, -2) in Windows 7, but in Win7 There are also Negative 3 and Negative 4 (-3, -4). Negative 3, Just make one right move and the game will take 3 of cards and put them into the goal place, And you will be so surprised "How did you win this yourself Computer?". It wins itself. And in Negative 4, The computer still wins itself but in a different way. It takes cards one-by-one and puts it into the goal stack, and wins itself. Fun, no?
