Palm OS Easter Egg - Easter Egg and Taxi
1. Go to Preferences, General Tab
2. Draw a small circle, counter-clockwise, on the screen right above the calculator silk-screen button. If done properly, you should see an Easter Egg appear. 3. Now, hold down the page down button in any application (you might need to exit the Prefs app - some have reported this) and draw a line from the middle of the Graffiti input area to the left edge of the screen right between the applications and menu silkscreen buttons.

I couldn't get this to work until I drew the line all the way to the *very* left edge of the screen. Also, the machine beeps like crazy while holding down the scroll down button, but don't worry, that's to be expected.

If you move where you drag the line up or down, the taxi moves up or down, respectively.

To turn the easter egg off, draw the circle around the egg until it disappears.

I don't know about this for the Visor, but for Palm OS 3.5, it randomizes the position. Try just drawing the line the same way a few times. It may appear to at first drive along the corresponding path, but after a few times, it becomes evident that it does not.

I don't think anybody mentioned:
1. The egg stays there until you draw a clockwise circle in the same place.
2. You can quickly draw several lines to the left side of the graffitti area and get several cars to go after you stop drawing. I think I got 5 once, but only get 3-4 consistantly (maybe I don't draw the lines well).

I have heard that if let your Palm sit for 17 minutes that the taxi will appear. To get your Palm to stay on for 17 minutes, write the cursive l . 3 or l . 4. I use soft reset to clear the no power off mode.

On my Handspring Treo 300 with Palm OS v. 3.5.2H6.3, I can get the easter egg to appear in the bottom right corner of the General page of Preferences, however, I cannot seem to get the car to appear (the Treo 300 lacks a graffiti pad, and I can't seem to replicate it on the screen, or using the back-space key.

I have no idea when White Wolf posted that comment, but my IIIxe (OS 3.5.2) absolutely does have a General tab in Preferences. It's possible to make the egg and the taxi to appear on the preferences screen.

This works fine on my Palm III and on the Palm Emulator with the Palm III ROM. But with Palm OS 3.5 (color) ROM on the emulator I can't get the taxi to work:( The little egg works fine (the egg is in COLOR!). Can anyone get the taxi to work on a real Palm IIIc?

I tried this on a new Palm IIIxe (just got here today, I'm so happy!) and it worked. OS 3.1. I heard of this egg after my Pilot broke so I tried it today. But I also remember that on a field trip in science class I was typing a bit in it but stopped after I started listening to the guy in charge of the DNA lab and I just saw out of the corner of my eye there was something moving across the screen! As it happened, I remember it looked just like the taxi, so I suppose that 17 minute trick might be what set it off. I guess my sleeve may have brushed against it keeping it on. I haven't had any problem with it like that "vertical line" mess up.

I have a Palm IIIxe and it did not work for me. There is no General tab in Preferences. One person claims they got it to work on a IIIxe though. Only thing I can think that might cause a problem is I have hackmaster installed with DA Launcher, but this shouldn't affect this. The counter-clockwise circle does nothing (I tried numerous times) and the page down button just scrolls down the list of applications. Any ideas?

hey just a little comment about the taxi egg... the story behind it is that the original name of the palm pilot was going to be the "taxi", but obviously they changed it. and about the visor, apparently they had the same egg on their version of palm os, so they changed it to a red convertible sports car.
this egg works on my zire w/4.1, but it doesn't work on the sony clie or that samsung palm phone thingy (just some fyi for those few people who may have one- my dad has one, thats how i know)

I just got a sony Clie TJ35 and got the taxi to work - You must use the Right direction button sence there is no down button.
It is a really nice high color VW Bug Taxi.
I remembered once snooping through the resources of an old palm of mine and stumbling accross a picture of a car. I though that it was weird and wondered what it was for. There were also many other icons that I have never seen used in the interface.

Tried this on my Palm IIIx running version 3.3 of the OS. Taxi was lovely, but after it finished my display was streaked with vertical lines. No hard reset or new batteries would clear the problem. Have to send it back for repair. Has anyone else had this problem?

Works on the visor. depending on where you draw the line is where the taxi will drive by. for instance if you draw the line towards the bottom, the taxi will drive on the bottom of the screen. vice-versa for drawing it on the top.
