Excel Easter Egg - Excel 2000 Real Easter Egg?

Boot Excel 2000
Under file menu, do 'Save as Web Page'
Say 'Publish Sheet' and 'Add Interactivity'
Save to some htm page on your drive.
Load the htm page with IE. You should have Excel in the middle of the page.
Scroll to row 2000, column WC. Select row 2000, and tab so that WC is the active column.
Hold down Shift+Crtl+Alt nad click the Office logo in the upper-left.
If you have DirectX, you will be playing what looks like spy hunter. Use the arrow keys to drive, space to fire, O to drop oil slicks, and when it gets dark, use H for your headlights.

First things first. You MUST NOT HAVE O2K Service Pack 1 installed. It WILL NOT work this way. MS is now integrating SP1 with the masters of retail stock so if you just recently bought O2K, you probably have it installed. As far as the interactivity, if you have any other browser set as your default, you must go to whereever you saved the file and manually Shift-RightClick on it and then select "Open With...", scroll to "iexplore" and click OK. "Publish Sheet" is incorrect. You need to go to File - Save As Web Page, then under "Save: Entire Workbook [or] Selection: Sheet" choose Selection: Sheet. Check the box next to "Add Interactivity" and finally click save. This might explain why the columns end at IZ. Try it this way and see. To use the car, use the arrow keys - Up = accelerate/forward, Down = deccelerate, left/right = side to side. O spills oil as long as you hold it, B turns on headlights, and space bar fires twin machine guns.

It took me a few times to get it, but what I did is this: Open Excel 2000, (it automatically creates a blank book for you) then go to File, Save As, then in the dialog box, under where you would type the file name, select the drop-down menu next to 'Save As Type:' then select 'Web Page' then just under the large box that lists folders & files, select the radio button for 'Selection: Sheet' then click 'Add Interactivity' (it is right underneath the 'Selection: Sheet' then click the 'Publish...' button. In the 'Publish As Web Page' dialog box, just click the 'Publish' button at the bottom. Oepn the page in Internet Explorer (I used IE 5.0) then scroll or page down to line 2000, then highlight it (very important) then, without clicking anywhere else, tab to cell 'WC' then, Shift-CTRL-Alt-Click the Office Logo, then have fun! I just stayed in the lane I started in and held down the spacebar and 'O' (as in Oscar) keys and If I saw other cars with headlights on, I pressed the 'H' key. (The headlights stay on until you click the 'H' key again.)

This Egg worked fine for me. One note: the first time that I ran it, I had a lot of applications running maximised in the background (including ICQ jammed up against the right-hand side of the screen), and my resolution is 1152x864. When I exited the game, all of my maximised applications were resized to about 640x480 (maybe less!), and ICQ was aroundabouts the middle of the screen; I laboriously resized everything after that. Second time I loaded it, everything was fine, although I only had the IE window open at the time, but ICQ didn't move. So, my recommendation is to not run many applications maximised in the background.

Works fine for me... I also discovered you have powers of TELEKENESIS!!! To use your telekenetic powers simply slam on your brakes in front of another car, wait till they are jammed up against you, then while still holding back also hold right or left, they will bounce away from you in that direction! It also works if you ram a car from the side and while touching them pull away from them, if done correctly they will move under your car and will move left and right at your command at about twice the speed that your car does.

This should solve your problems: 1. Open Excel 2000. 2. Go to File, Save as Web Page. 3. Then Click Publish. 4. Check the little box that says "Add Interactively With" 5. Click Publish. 6. Close Excel. 7. Open IE 8. Click File,Open, Browse. 9. Go to where you saved it and click open 10. Now you should be looking at a spreadsheet. 11. Go all the way to row 2000. 12. Click column A and drag all the way to column ZZ 13. Hit Tab and it should take you back to A. 14. Hold Tab all the way to WC. When you get there make sure WC is a white box and all the others are green 15. Hold ctrl + alt + shift and left click on the four puzzle piece thing (The MS Excel Logo) in the upper left hand corner. I am an expert by now at opening this game and This is how I open it every time. If this didn't work you didn't follow instructions. So try again.

Just a hint for everyone who was complaining about how long it takes to scroll.... if you have the IntelliMouse, or any other mouse that has a scroll button in the middle, and you click it to get a 4 way arrow & pull way down, it goes really fast. You can do the same thing to get to WC. You can scroll all the way to WC, and then if you select row 2000 whichever is the first column you see is selected, so you don't have to tab all the way across. Basically my point is scrolling with the nifty wheel in the middle of your mouse makes the whole process a lot easier. ~ArkhamEscapee (Ren)

Is there anyway to get rid of the service packs in office 2000? or any other freakin way to get this egg to work?

HOW TO FIX THE IV COLUMN PROBLEM At first I couldn't get past column IV when looking at my spreadsheet in IE. From the posts here I guess others are having the same dilemma. This is what you have to do. When in IE go to File -- Open -- Browse. But don't open the .xls file (you probably have Book1.xls as your spreadsheet). Instead open the HTML version of your page that excel made. This will probably be called Page.HTML, Excel put it in My Domcuments even though i dont remember saving it there. Anyway, when you open the HTML version your spreadsheet wont will the entire IE screen, it will only appear as an interact object (thats what you want). Your columns should now go up to ZZ...good luck!

I just found out a neat aspect of the game. First, if you push the ALT key while playing, it pauses your game. If you press it again, it resumes your game. If you hold the fire button (space bar) while you press ALT, then let go of fire, and press ALT again, you have rapid fire. To turn it off, repeat the procedure. COOL HUH!!!!

Cool game! You have to highlight all of row 2000 and then scroll over so that WC is at the far left (So the columns on the screen read: WC, WD, WE, WF, etc.) That's the only way I got it to work (Excel 2000, Win ME, IE 6.0) Also, it only works in 2000! I've had 97 before and it ends at IZ, so that's why.

I do every thing everyone says but when I go to view "Page.htm" (or whatever you pick as it's name) I get a little box of text that says "To use this Web page interactively, you must have Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.01 or later and the Microsoft Office Web Components. See the Microsoft Office Web site for more information." (I have IE 5.0). Then I go to download a spreadsheet on-line viewer or something and there's nothing to download. If you can help e-mail me please!

Nice game, what a great job they did. Btw, I haven't seen it mentioned above (sorry if it was) but hitting the "h" key(while its dark) switches headlights on. Also, as you all know, the space bar fires but, if someone is on your tail it will cause them to crash too. Remember too, as someone pointed out, you can get to 2000/WC pretty quickly by holding down the "Page Down" key, then click on "2000" to select the line, then Ctl+right cursor to get to ZZ then left cursor back to WC (wish there was a "go to" type of command available).

I would like to point out that in icy viper's comment some people who just do not use computers much may not know what IE is (Internet Explorer) and also when you press tab it brings you to b2000 not a2000 just thought this might be helpful for anyone who got confused.

Does anyone have a WORKING asp .net page for this egg? I've tried the methods, but I gave up and I am looking for an aforementioned ready-to-use page with the spreadsheet embedded within it; and maybe a link to select the cell (WC,2000) done with VBScript or something... Saves the scrolling! P.S: All the links posted for this egg are currently "dead," or the domain name has been passed on, etc. If no-one has any more, then I'll continue to try. (There has to be some more!)

To make this egg work be careful while reading it. You should highlight the cell WC2000 not by just clicking it (!), but first you've got to click "2000" in the column with numbers of rows (the very left column, typically it is gray), then use the "tab" button to shift the cursor until the WC2000 cell is highlighted. And then only you should hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (i use left ones)and click the MS Office logo in the left corner of the icon bar. If you do it correctly, the game will be loaded.

for Crash-Override :- You will have to save a blank sheet as a web page (follow the instructions above). At the moment you are looking at a simple Excel spreadsheet, which as you've found out, is not as wide.

I have Office 2K, SP3, on Win2K. Following these instructions to the letter yields no results. Saving the page is easy, so is opening it in IE6. I scroll down to row 2000, and click on the row heading, which selects the entire row. Then I tab until I hit the column WC, making (wC,2000) the active cell. Finally, I hold CTRL+SHIFT+ALT, and I click the logo in the top left corner... ... and I get an about box. woohoo. :/
