Halloween Easter Egg - Sam Loomis

As an obvious nod to Jamie Lee Curtis' mom Janet Leigh, John Carpenter borrowed Dr. Sam Loomis' name from Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO. Sam Loomis was the name of Janet Leigh's character's lover.

It is a nod to Psycho. Not only is the name Sam Loomis exactly the same but it is said in the special feature at the end that this is a reference to Psycho.

To clarify: The character in Halloween, Dr. Sam Loomis, is a tribute to the character in Psycho, also named Sam Loomis. It is just a coincidence that the actress who plays Annie (the sheriff's daughter) is named Nancy Loomis.

This tribute is continued in the Scream movies, where the name of Sidney's boyfriend is Billy Loomis. bbX

Acutally the blonde cheerleader (Linda) is played by PJ Soles, Nancy Loomis played Annie, the sheriff's daughter.

Actually, it *was* a reference to Psycho, as the first name of Doctor Loomis, Sam, is the same first name of the Loomis in Psycho. The actress who plays Annie last name is Kyes, not Loomis.

I'll guess you have to argue Nancy's last name with the box manufactur because the credits on my copy of Halloween says Nancy Loomis.

Actually, they originally got the name "Loomis" from one of the actors in the movie. I can't remember her first name, but she played the dumb blonde cheerleader who gets killed by Mr. Meyers while he's stylin' in his nifty ghost "uniform".

Most of the people who have commented are correct: the inclusion of the name Sam Loomis *was* a nod to the film Psycho and not specifically to Janet Leigh as Jamie's mother, since Jamie Lee Curtis had not even been cast at that point.
